Activation Plan
Below is an overview of some campus activities:
- Longwood’s Civitae Core Curriculum started in 2018 under President Reveley and is focused on preparation for citizen leadership. Civitae classes have a focus on developing communication skills, critical thinking skills, and collaboration. The knowledge and skills gained in initial Civitae classes are put to use and context in the next level of classes, which emphasize understanding issues or topics by considering a variety of perspectives. The curriculum culminates in a senior-level symposium on the common good.
- Longwood received a grant from the Teagle Foundation for faculty development in teaching the foundations and mechanics of American democracy. The funding prepared faculty from across disciplines to teach courses centered around issues of citizenship and civic engagement and enabled faculty to further develop and design courses in the Civitae curriculum.
