Residential liberal arts colleges have a unique opportunity to offer an alternative to the fractured society surrounding us and, as a result, help heal our society. Because our students learn and live together, bringing with them a diversity of experiences and attitudes, they have the opportunity to apply what they learn immediately. It's often messy and uncomfortable, but I believe we can create more engaged citizens and better neighbors as a result of deep commitment to nurturing the whole person.

Below is an overview of some campus activities:

  • Hendrix is an ALL IN campus again this year. We earned a Bronze Award from ALL IN for voter participation in the 2016 election.
  • The university is a member of Project Pericles and will apply for a Rapid Response Mini-Grant to host discussions of themes likely aligning with the civic engagement work of the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute in Little Rock.
  • Faculty in Politics and in Philosophy have courses scheduled on major themes such as development, philosophical underpinnings of democracy, and analytical approaches to understanding the political process.
