At Hamline University, we believe in John Wesley's motto of ‘doing all the good we can, in all the ways we can.’ We are champions for justice and social change. We fuel our students' desire to contribute to--and transform--society. We help them develop the skills to have difficult and meaningful conversations across difference, creating opportunities to come together as community to develop a deeper understanding of the issues that divide us.

Below is an overview of some campus activities:
- Hamline University sponsors Commitment to Community and Respectful Conversations events that model civil discourse and allow members of the community to practice that skill set.
- The ALL IN Campus Challenge around student voter turnout has recognized Hamline as among the top institutions in the nation for our size in the 2018, 2020 and 2022 elections and has already awarded Hamline the Highly Established Action Plan Seal for the 2024 election cycle. Numerous activities are planned for this fall semester, both within and beyond our classrooms.
- Hamline has a powerful statement of civility that says, in part: “The University embraces the examination of all ideas, some of which will be potentially unpopular and unsettling, as an integral and robust component of intellectual inquiry. It is expected that the expression of ideas will be done in ways that are respectful of others and which do not include personal vilification based on race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, sexual identity, appearance, disability or political affiliation.”
- Plans are underway to continue the Respectful Conversations events focused on the Israel/Hamas conflict and the U.S. elections this fall.
