I chose to join College Presidents for Civic Preparedness because the Civic Commitments reflect the very foundation of our mission at Bronx Community College—to educate, empower, and elevate every learner so they may become engaged citizens who strengthen our democracy. As president, I believe our responsibility extends beyond academic preparation; we must also nurture the civic consciousness and agency of our students. When community colleges lead with purpose, we not only transform individual lives—we help secure a more just, informed, and vibrant society.

Below is an overview of some campus activities:
- Constructive Dialogue Initiative — CUNY Partnership
BCC participates in CUNY’s Constructive Dialogue Initiative, a nationally recognized model for building campus cultures of inquiry, trust, and shared understanding. BCC senior leadership participated in the Constructive Dialogue Leadership Institute, which convened senior leadership teams across the CUNY system to plan for expanding the reach of constructive dialogue on campus. BCC is also planning participation in upcoming CDI training opportunities including Fall 2026 Faculty Trainings and Virtual Certification Training, with the goal of building a core team of certified facilitators to embed dialogue practices into classrooms, student services, and campus-wide programming. 2025–2026 | Office of the President - President’s Forum: Strengthening Trust and Belonging Across our Community
The Office of the President hosted the President’s Forum: Strengthening Trust and Belonging Across our Community on April 28, 2026, bringing together more than 150 faculty and staff members for an open community conversation. The forum addressed themes central to campus health and cohesion — including Silos, Trust, Communication, Belonging, and Campus Culture. The strong turnout reflected the community’s investment in these conversations, and the forum delivered on its goal: creating a genuine space for open dialogue where voices across the college could be heard. Lunch was provided, and the event was organized in partnership with the Office of Student Life. April 28, 2026 | Office of the President - The Feminist Roundtable: Experiences at the Margins with Izumary Rodriguez
In this Womxn Up! event, we highlighted the experience of the deaf community, featuring a conversation with Izumary Rodriguez on her experience navigating life and college as a woman born deaf. We explored how deaf students navigate spaces and the importance of sign language interpretation. Deaf students also raised points to non-deaf community members about not being afraid to communicate with students with different disabilities, and understanding that we are all humans. Together, we left with more understanding of each other’s perspectives and experiences. October 23, 2026 | Office of Student Diversity Initiatives & Womxn Up!, Student Success - 2026 MEN’s Conference
This year’s BCC MEN’s Conference was a day-long event dedicated to empowering, educating, and inspiring the next generation of leaders. The conference explored identity, purpose, and legacy through workshops, panels, and a keynote address. We worked across differences and solved problems together by having conversations on getting men to their next steps, discussing fatherhood, and addressing the mental health challenges men have. February 27, 2026 | Office of Student Diversity Initiatives & Male Empowerment Network, Student Success
