Our mission of faith, reason, and justice represents the formative priorities for establishing and continuing our republic and democracy. Based on the responsibilities related to liberty—the articulated freedoms and equal justice under the law from our founding documents—the need for civic commitment, preparedness, and advocacy has never been greater.

Activation Plan

Below is an overview of some campus activities:

  1. Rise Against Hunger Community Service Project:
During this high-energy event, students, faculty, and staff will work together to package nutritious meals for children and families facing food insecurity worldwide. Volunteers will participate in an assembly-line-style experience, measuring ingredients, sealing meal packets, and boxing meals to be distributed through global hunger relief programs.
  2. AICUP Day on the Hill:
Selected Eastern students and a few staff members will be able to talk with Pennsylvania lawmakers, senators, and congressmen. Students create elevator pitches and share their story as Eastern students while advocating for resources and connecting with Pennsylvania politicians. It’s a unique opportunity for upcoming leaders and current political leaders to share and connect on ideas that they’re passionate about.
  3. Goode Conversations is a leadership and professional development series that connects students with accomplished leaders from diverse industries and backgrounds. Through authentic dialogue, students are challenged to think critically, engage different perspectives, ask meaningful questions, and explore how values, purpose, and leadership intersect in real-world decision-making.
  4. YACHT (Youth Against Complacency & Homelessness Today) Club Activities:
Sleep Out – During the Sleep Out Against Homelessness, participants will learn about the realities faced by individuals experiencing homelessness, hear stories of resilience, and engage in meaningful conversations about how we can make a difference.
YACHT Outings – Twice per week, volunteers will work together to package nutritious meals, assemble care packages, and then travel into the city to personally hand out meals and develop friendships to combat the epidemic of loneliness and invisibility among people experiencing homelessness.

Highlights:

Goode Scholars Program
The Goode Scholars Program supports first-generation and underrepresented students through mentoring, leadership development, professional growth opportunities, and community building. Through initiatives such as the Goode Conversations speaker series, students engage with leaders from diverse professions and perspectives, developing the critical thinking, self-leadership, and communication skills needed to navigate complex issues and lead with purpose in an increasingly diverse society.

Office of Multicultural Student Initiatives (MSI)
The Office of Multicultural Student Initiatives fosters belonging, intercultural learning, and meaningful engagement across campus. Through educational programs, cultural celebrations, leadership opportunities, and student organization support, MSI creates spaces where students can deepen their understanding of different lived experiences, engage in respectful dialogue, and strengthen the relationships that contribute to a more inclusive campus community.

Voter Engagement and Civic Participation
Eastern University has demonstrated a commitment to civic engagement through voter registration and voter education initiatives designed to increase student participation in the democratic process. These efforts encourage students to become informed and engaged citizens by providing nonpartisan resources, voter registration opportunities, and educational programming that promotes civic responsibility and participation across diverse viewpoints.
