Below is an overview of some campus activities:

  • St. Olaf College will continue to build upon its strong foundation of voter engagement evidenced by the 86.7% of eligible St. Olaf students that voted in the 2020 election (compared to the national average of 66%).
  • The College participates in the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge and earned a Platinum Seal for voter turnout in 2020 and a “Highly Established Action Plan” seal for its 2024 Democratic engagement plan. The 2024 action plan works to deepen the College’s year-round civic education and engagement activities, including virtual, hybrid, and in-person formats, and encompassing both curricular and co-curricular programs. The plan’s short-term goals include increasing voter registration and education with long-term goals of deeper integration into the curriculum and fully closing the gap in voter turnout between white and BIPOC students.
  • The Election Ambassador program is a peer-to-peer networking initiative. Students are trained on how to share nonpartisan information about voting and the elections with their peers and walk through completing the Pledge to Vote form.
  • The Institute for Freedom and Community works to improve civic dialogue and discourse on contentious political issues. It uses training modules produced through the Constructive Dialogue Institute to improve students’ capacity for constructive political discourse.
