Activation Plan
Below is an overview of some campus activities:
Colorado College’s working group — comprised of staff from the Ombuds Office, Student Life, the Office of Civil Rights and Title IX and more — is preparing robust programming to launch in Fall 2024.
- Facilitated dialogue supported by “pre-work” — e.g., identifying why people are increasingly resistant to resolution and inclined to an us v. them mentality.
- A strategic plan for restorative justice alternatives on campus
- Incorporating a curricular focus on civic preparedness, civility, and conflict resolution into our First Year Program
- Inviting a legal scholar to campus discuss the tension between academic freedom and liability
- Additional bias trainings and workshops
- Clarifying the language in our Freedom of Expression policy and providing training for students, faculty, and staff
- Colorado College also continues to encourage and promote student-led civic dialogue programs, such as “Courageous Conversations: Cutler Debates,” held in the fall. This program, sponsored by the student newspaper The Catalyst, invites progressive and libertarian students to debate policy topics ranging from climate action to SCOTUS decisions to the role of government in the lives of everyday Americans.
