“We have long been the experts in what is in the classroom in terms of content, keeping up with the most recent advancements in disciplines from nursing to sociology and how to bring our country more in alignment with its stated promises of democracy. Our ability to make those decisions without political interference is what has allowed us to create the community you will hear about from our student speakers, and the divisiveness of the political arena is slowly creeping into our campus. I hope that as you go out and hear media and read stories about higher education you remember the love felt in this building and recognize the as a vitriolic policial arena threatens to come into our colleges, it also threatens the feeling of belonging we have here at Delta—I hope you remember that and can understand why we want to protect our special community here, so that future generations of students can have the same experiences these students clearly have had at Delta.”
