Below is an overview of some campus activities: 

1. TLU’s mission incorporates the concept of servant leadership. Through the Center for Servant Leadership, supported by faculty, staff, and students, TLU has been consistently recognized by the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge as having a highly established voter engagement action plan.
2. The university prioritizes community—both on campus and in the context of its surrounding community, and TLU’s strategic plan emphasizes community connections. Those values are manifested in numerous ways, from hosting free events featuring world-class speakers, concerts, and an annual symposium, to sponsoring local candidate election forums in partnership with community organizations and our MOVE Texas student group, to serving as a polling location on election days.
3. TLU has hosted several faculty and student-led opportunities for dialogue about democracy including the Teach Peace initiative, collaborations to bring ELCA leaders to campus, and hosting a conference on faith-based civic engagement with faculty from around the country and student presentations.
4. TLU faculty and students have ongoing initiatives to engage in education for democracy and civic engagement, through humanities and social sciences courses that focus on democracy, deliberative dialogue and democratic practice, and student efforts to bring students and faculty together to have meaningful conversations about challenging topics that recognize the role that students play in co-creating their educational experience alongside faculty.
5. TLU faculty have been recognized for their civic engagement work and hold national leadership roles in this area.
