Higher education must be on the frontlines of reclaiming civic education. For too long we have allowed what we do to be mischaracterized and maligned by those in the public sphere. I am looking forward being part of the movement to reverse decades of attacks on higher education and stake out our rightful place as leaders in West Virginia and across the nation.

Below is an overview of some campus activities:
- Fairmont has a robust Model UN program and will engage local elected officials in forums and legislative preview luncheons in the upcoming academic year.
- Fairmont leads community discussions around the state regarding the importance of the institutions of higher education in developing critical civic engagement infrastructure and engaged citizens.
The university has signed on to the American Democracy Project (ADP) and will appoint a director for the Institute for Civic Engagement.
