University of Pittsburgh Commencement, Joan Gabel

“All of the people who make up the university are deeply committed to your education to discovery, expanding knowledge, free expression, and civil discourse, and to our society as a whole. Every single day we all benefit from the University of Pittsburgh’s incredible community of service-minded risktakers and doers, artists, creators, discoverers, and caretakers. And here in this city and beyond members of the Pitt family inspire us and they show us that anything is possible at Pitt. From the work to defeat a crippling disease in the 1950s to restoring sight to the blind today and across the nation this same kind of innovation is happening at universities. And this has led to contributions like the internet, smartphones, AI life-saving treatments, and cures. Theater, poetry, and moments like today.”
