The ability to have a group of committed presidents with the expertise at the Institute for Citizens & Scholars—it’s the work that Wellesley wanted to engage in. There is no established or validated path in this work, so we’re all navigating together and that’s very powerful.

Below is an overview of some campus activities:

  • Wellesley is introducing student and faculty programming in Fall 2024 through the newly opened Hillary Rodham Clinton Center for Citizenship, Leadership, and Democracy, which prepares students for a lifetime of civic engagement.
  • The Clinton Fellows program is a year-long program for sophomores offering learning and practice across five key areas: skill building in active citizenship and principles of democracy, civic engagement and field service, workshops with civic innovators, constructive dialogue training, and the alignment of academics and civic goals.
  • The Faculty Research Initiative will bring together world-class researchers to share their unique perspectives on the supportive and problematic influences on democracy. Such exchanges will help participants to expand each other’s work, explore new approaches, and engage in collaborative projects.
  • The Annual Summit will be a full-day convening of faculty thought leaders and other public intellectuals, civic innovators, activists, and statespeople to catalyze research and action in support of democratic principles and ideals.
