Unscripted Campus Conversations

Across the nation, college presidents, faculty, staff, and students are engaging in meaningful discussions about the critical issues affecting our communities and country. From classrooms to auditoriums to residence halls and beyond, these campus voices ask questions, share ideas, and challenge conventional wisdom. This vibrant exchange not only enriches campus life but also establishes the foundation for a future where civic engagement inspires change across the nation.
In this spirit, College Presidents for Civic Preparedness has launched “Unscripted Campus Conversations,” an interactive map highlighting real stories of individuals navigating divides and discovering common ground in our polarized society.
Today’s students are proving that they’re not shying away from tough conversations—they’re leading them. With support from educators and administrators, they’re picking up essential skills like reasoning, empathy, listening, and effective communication. On campus, these discussions create understanding and break down walls. Off campus, these skills empower the next generation to be active, engaged members of their communities and families.
Unscripted Campus Conversations unites diverse voices through first-person narratives about successful dialogue initiatives taking place across campuses. The map features contributions from students, faculty, presidents, and staff, showcasing a wide range of perspectives that reflect the richness of these discussions.

In a time marked by division, Unscripted Campus Conversations stands as a beacon of hope, showcasing the open, respectful, and constructive dialogue occurring on campuses around critical societal issues. This initiative captures the excitement and potential of our future leaders and the institutions committed to nurturing their growth.
Though the project features initiatives from a percentage of the 100 institutions involved in College Presidents for Civic Preparedness, many more efforts are underway. Unscripted Campus Conversations serves as a dynamic resource and database, illustrating the transformative work of countless institutions committed to bringing the entire campus community together through productive conversations.
