The University of Dayton’s Health Engagement Fellows program prepares students to improve health where it begins, in the community. Working alongside organizations including Dayton Children’s Hospital, Daybreak, Sunlight Village, and Miami Valley Child Development Centers, the inaugural cohort contributed more than 12,500 hours addressing barriers to care across the Dayton region. Fellows supported vision screenings for preschoolers, expanded access to fresh food for older adults, promoted early detection for sickle cell disease and breast cancer, and developed initiatives focused on maternal and infant health and youth mental health. Through these long-term partnerships, students gain hands-on experience while helping local organizations strengthen services, expand access to care, and improve health outcomes across the Dayton community.
