The Casco Bay Fishing and Coastal Communities Partnership connects University of Southern Maine nursing students with Maine’s coastal and island communities to expand access to preventive healthcare. Through long-standing partnerships with local organizations and communities, students provide health screenings, education, and wellness outreach for fishermen, shellfish harvesters, island residents, and their families while gaining hands-on experience in community health nursing. By strengthening access to care in underserved coastal communities, the partnership supports Maine’s fishing workforce while preparing future nurses to serve where they are needed most.
